A new noise, a strange smell or a light on the dash. We find out what the car is telling you, explain it in plain words, and quote the fix before any work starts.

What we check

A funny noise or an odd smell is usually the first sign that something needs attention. Catching it early keeps a small problem from turning into a bigger repair. We start by talking with you about what the car is doing, then look it over system by system.

  • Engine
  • Exhaust system
  • Brakes
  • Transmission
  • Fuel injectors
  • Coolant
  • Ignition coils
  • Throttle

We do this work on all the makes we service, including Kia, Jeep, Ram, Audi, Mercedes-Benz and Mazda.

How a diagnosis works

We read the car's computer with Snap-on, Mac and OTC scan tools, then confirm what the codes point to with a hands-on check. A code tells us where to look. The inspection tells us what is actually wrong.

You get a report, then a quote

Once we know the cause, we go over what we found, how it affects the safety of the car, and what we recommend. You get a quote for parts and labour before any work starts, and nothing is added without your yes.

Repairs are covered by the NAPA AutoPro 36 month, 60,000 km Peace of Mind warranty on parts and labour. If the cause is in the engine, see engine repair. For wiring, starters and charging, see auto electrical repair.

Flashing or steady check engine light?

A steady check engine light means the car's computer has stored a fault code. The car is usually fine to drive for now, but book a diagnosis soon so a small fault does not turn into a bigger repair.

A flashing check engine light usually means the engine is misfiring. Unburned fuel from a misfire can overheat and damage the catalytic converter, which is an expensive part. Ease off, avoid hard acceleration and heavy loads, and have the car looked at as soon as you can.

If the light comes on with a loss of power, smoke, or a temperature or oil pressure warning, pull over where it is safe and call (403) 283-5015.
